Dhaka, Bangladesh | 03 June 2026
In observance of United Nations World Bicycle Day, the Centre for Humanitarian Research and Social Development Foundation (CHRSD) announces a series of Dhaka‑based initiatives to promote cycling as a sustainable, healthy and inclusive mode of urban transport.
World Bicycle Day, observed globally on 3 June, recognizes the bicycle’s contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, easing urban congestion and improving public health. CHRSD’s activities aim to mobilize residents, commuters and civic stakeholders to embrace cycling and to advocate for safer, more accessible cycling infrastructure across the city.
“Cycling is more than a mode of transport; it is an essential pathway to sustainability and better health for Dhaka’s residents,” said MD Masud Alam Bhuiayan, Deputy Chair of the Board, CHRSD Foundation. “Through community rides and advocacy for protected cycling infrastructure, we want to encourage people to choose active mobility, reduce vehicle dependence and experience the benefits of cycling firsthand.”
CHRSD Foundation’s World Bicycle Day programme includes:
- Community Fun Ride: 08:00, 3 June — route from Dainik Banglar Moor to Mogbazar.
- Bike‑to‑Work Incentives: Free secure bike parking and complimentary breakfast for employees who cycle to work during the week of 3 June.
- Safety & Gear Workshop: Practical session on urban cycling safety and basic bicycle maintenance.
Research indicates that daily cycling can reduce an individual’s transport‑related carbon footprint by up to 67 percent. In a high‑density city such as Dhaka, scaling up active mobility is a critical measure for lowering air pollution and improving population health.
CHRSD Foundation invites residents, schools, employers and civil society organisations to participate in the events and to support efforts for safer cycling infrastructure. Share your riding experiences and event participation on social media using the hashtag #WorldBicycleDay.
